THE JOURNALIST NEXT DOOR ... THE PROFESSIONAL I WANT TO BE: My Reflection...

The pursuit of excellence is a continuous journey. As I reflect on the professional I want to become, I envision a career rooted in purpose, driven by passion, and marked by impactful contributions to the organizations and individuals I serve. Using my own career journey as a reference point, this article highlights the key aspects of the professional I strive to be.

Mastery through Experience

With several years of experience in Corporate Communications and Protocol, I’ve come to appreciate the breadth of skills required in this dynamic field. From media relations to crisis management, each challenge has refined my expertise. However, mastery is never fully achieved—it’s a continuous process. The professional I want to be is someone who never stops evolving, constantly seeking new knowledge and skills. Whether in the education sector where I currently lead a team, or in any other domain, I want to ensure that my foundation remains strong, while I adapt to the changing tides of communication.

Strategic Leadership

As a team lead, I have grown to understand the importance of leadership—leadership that inspires, motivates, and creates pathways for others to succeed. I envision myself as a leader who empowers those around me, not only through guidance but also by fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation. The professional I want to be will embody strategic thinking, making decisions that are not just reactive but visionary, ensuring that the communication goals I set align with long-term organizational success.

Passion for Continuous Learning

My academic journey, starting with a degree in Mass Communication and culminating in a master’s degree in Communications and Language Arts, laid a solid foundation for my career. Yet, I understand that this foundation is just the beginning. The professional I aspire to be is one who embraces lifelong learning. I’ve already taken steps in this direction, gaining certification as an event planner and deepening my understanding of social media’s role in corporate communications. But I want to go further—constantly updating my skills, staying abreast of industry trends, and embracing emerging technologies. The communications landscape is evolving, and I want to evolve with it.

Purpose-Driven Work

My work has always been more than just a job; it is a calling to make a meaningful impact. Whether I’m creating social media content, planning events, or managing crises, my approach is grounded in purpose. I believe in the power of communication to shape perceptions, build reputations, and drive organizational success. The professional I want to be is someone who always sees the bigger picture, ensuring that every communication strategy I develop aligns with the organization’s core values and long-term objectives. I aim to remain purpose-driven, focusing on how my work can not only achieve immediate results but also create lasting, positive change.

Embracing Challenges with Grace

Throughout my personal and professional journey, I have faced many challenges—from health setbacks to balancing multiple responsibilities. But these challenges have only made me stronger and more determined. The professional I aspire to be is one who meets adversity head-on, with grace and resilience. I want to be someone who turns obstacles into opportunities for growth and development. The scars I bear from personal struggles, such as surgeries and health issues, remind me of my strength, and I carry that strength into my professional life. I want to be remembered as a professional who not only thrived in the face of difficulty but also inspired others to do the same.

Personal Branding and Authenticity

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the years is the value of authenticity in building a personal brand. I have built a reputation as a communications expert, event planner, and mentor, but more importantly, I have done so by staying true to myself. The professional I want to be will continue to project authenticity—staying aligned with my values, passions, and strengths. I believe that personal branding is not about creating an image, but about reflecting who you genuinely are. I want my brand to stand for excellence, integrity, and purpose, both in my career and personal endeavors.

Giving Back

Mentorship has always been close to my heart, and as I advance in my career, I want to do more in this area. The professional I aspire to be is one who not only achieves personal success but also contributes to the growth and development of others. I want to share my knowledge and experiences, helping younger professionals navigate the complexities of corporate communications and event planning. By giving back, I hope to build a legacy that extends beyond my own achievements, fostering a community of empowered, skilled professionals who will carry the torch forward.

Conclusion

In reflecting on the professional I want to be, I see a path of continuous growth, strategic leadership, and purpose-driven work. My career has already provided a strong foundation, but I know there is much more to achieve. The professional I aspire to become is one who embraces challenges, remains committed to learning, and inspires others through authenticity and mentorship. As I continue on this journey, I remain guided by my core values and the belief that communication, when done right, has the power to transform organizations and lives.

SEPTEMBER SPECIAL...

Its 3.39am and a very tired Funmi is woken by the thought of children crying repeatedly (seriously, continuous cry is killing) but am gonna help tell the story (my business you know). How does a well fed kid cry in the morning? takes a bath, haves a nap, wakes in tears, has another meal, plays a short while, resumes crying, sleeps again for a shorter while than done in the morning, wakes in tears again, refuses food and expects to be carried while standing all night... who does that??? My fascination? they never seem to have headaches as the routine for some of them is stable. For real, do they have to cry so hard to get anything? arrrrrrgh! (Images withheld cause you don't wanna see what I found on research) ...oops! Have I welcomed you to the month of September? Aii, Happy new month. Its gonna be a great month. Ciao...

Upon confrontation, the pastor finally conceded and confessed after he heard the evidences and testimonies of his bad deeds.
