Yesterday started like any other typical day in the world of a corporate communications professional—busy, filled with deadlines, and buzzing with the constant hum of ideas waiting to be transformed into impactful content. But unlike most days, I felt the twinge of fever creeping up as I started my work. Still, there was no room to pause; the show had to go on.
I had content to create and post—social media waits for no one, and neither do the audiences we constantly strive to engage. Juggling a fever while crafting engaging posts and captions felt like running a marathon uphill, but the work needed to be done. Each piece of content carried its own weight, demanding attention to detail and creativity. I pushed through, determined not to let my body dictate the pace of my mind.
As if that wasn’t enough, there was administrative paperwork waiting for me—documents that needed signing, memos to draft, and reports to finalize. My desk was a battlefield of papers and files, all with urgent deadlines breathing down my neck. The paperwork seemed endless, but I chipped away at it steadily, ignoring the fever that nagged at me to take a break.
Deadlines are a unique kind of motivator—they either bring out the best in you or make you question every decision that led to that moment. Yesterday, they brought out my resilience. I met every deadline head-on, knowing that even on days when my body wasn’t at its best, my commitment to delivering excellence remained unwavering.
At the end of the day, I was drained but proud. The fever might have slowed me down physically, but it couldn’t stop me from showing up and putting in the work. The life of the journalist next door isn’t always glamorous, but it's always purposeful.
Here's to all the journalists, content creators, and professionals who keep pushing, even when their bodies tell them to stop. Some days are harder than others, but we always find a way to rise to the challenge.
Until next time, The Journalist Next Door
Its 3.39am and a very tired Funmi is woken by the thought of children crying repeatedly (seriously, continuous cry is killing) but am gonna help tell the story (my business you know). How does a well fed kid cry in the morning? takes a bath, haves a nap, wakes in tears, has another meal, plays a short while, resumes crying, sleeps again for a shorter while than done in the morning, wakes in tears again, refuses food and expects to be carried while standing all night... who does that??? My fascination? they never seem to have headaches as the routine for some of them is stable. For real, do they have to cry so hard to get anything? arrrrrrgh! (Images withheld cause you don't wanna see what I found on research) ...oops! Have I welcomed you to the month of September? Aii, Happy new month. Its gonna be a great month. Ciao...
