6 die in stampede at immigration employment test venues yesterday

A  total of 6 applicants have been reported dead from the different venues of the  Nigerian Immigration Service employment test held yesterday across the country. The Nigerian Immigration Service decided to conduct a test to fill 3,000 vacant positions in the country and the number of Nigerian Youths that went to the various test locations was overwhelming. Below is a collage of the crowd at the respective venues of the Immigration Service Test carried out in stadia across the country. The Abuja stadium which is to sit not more than 60,000 people had well over 80,000 youths and only one entrance to the stadium was opened for the applicants. It's being reported that at least six people died during a stampede at some of the venues of the poorly coordinated test. The dead are mostly from the Abuja venue, including a pregnant woman. The Yobe Massacre: Time is running out for Nigeria

By Adegbenro Adebanjo The horrendous and barbaric killing of over 40 innocent students of the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State by the Boko Haram Sect is proof positive that Nigeria is in clear and present danger. That killing has further diminished us as a people. It tells the rest of the World that the worst form of bestiality still takes place in Nigeria of 2014. It is sickening not just because of the number of children killed but also because of the sheer mindlessness and crude manner those kids were summarily executed. There is no justification whatsoever for the murder of those innocent souls. It is pure savagery. Those who planned and carried the crime out are mindless butchers and anyone who supports them one way or the other or who provides any justification for the gruesome act or tries to reap political capital out of this evil is vicariously liable and stands condemned too. It should be clear to all of us that our country is dancing on the precipice. Thi...

Tough times.. .lol

Hehehehe!  Have you ever had an assignment that made you feel like quitting your job?  Believe me I had one of those today.  OK,  so am at my desk the better of the day filling one sheet after the other. The thing is this,  writing off hand is a whole lot easier than from a source. So guess what? Am stuck writing from a recorder for 8 hours non-stop. Oh oK, didn't I mention what I was doing?  Thought you already figured. Aii,  am  transcribing an interview and like it sometimes is am way pass my deadline and the yellow card is hanging over my head. Am hungry and fatigued with no escape route. So am writing and writing and writing and it doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. What? 25 pages already written and my boss is still breathing down my throat with his looks?  So I make up my mind to get it over and done with and soon as am finished,  I ask my colleague which way out?  Don't get me wrong,  not which way out of the offic...

We were only 14 years old as he is just 37 days my senior but he was ahead by two classes and was more exposed than myself.  We would share a sweet at that time as though another couldn't be purchased. My parents knew and loved him as my brother cos they never got wind of what we shared so he moved in and out of our house freely.  He was so nice and would do just about anything for me so long as I was happy. He had this younger brother that never really believed in us so he mocked us at the slightest opportunity he got yet we weren't discouraged.  Meanwhile I also had this younger sister that would go any length to get my messages across, she believed totally in us. It was so str...

Breaking News: Nigerian Education Minister, others sacked

President Goodluck Jonathan has reshuffled his cabinet, dropping nine ministers. The ministers affected are Ruqayat Rufai (Education); Zainab Kuchi (Power, [state]); Buka Tijani (Agriculture [state]), Shamsudeen Usman (National Planning; Ita Okon (Science and Technology);  Olugbenga Ashiru (Foreign Affairs); Ama Pepple (Lands) and Hadiza Mailafia (Environment). Nigerians had long expected President Jonathan to sack members of his cabinet who had largely failed to deliver services to the Nigerian people. But while the expectation mounted, Mr. Jonathan repeatedly  dispelled speculation that he had plans to fire non-performing ministers. Last August, he unveiled a rating procedure known as Performance Contract Agreement for ministers but said he would not use the result of the assessment in considering who to fire.  Mr. Jonathan said the assessment would only appraise his administration’s performance and delivery of targets to Nigerians. “I read all kinds of things in ...
